Migraine causes and symptoms
Neurons are present inside the brain. Since childhood, as we grow, the Neurons keep growing into bigger unit and they carry the basic nerve cells. The neurons or the nerve cells in our brain carry the messages from us to the brain and from the brain to us.
Then what is the link between migraine and headache?
Generally, when do we get headache :
- If we do not eat properly
- When we do not sleep properly for a day or two
- Even if the water intake is low or if you are dehydrated
So, eating sleeping and even drinking water can trigger headache. Those neurons or the nerve cells are there in the brain stem, which is a very important for the brain. When there is lack of sleep or low food intake, the nerve cells will start giving signals to the brain stem. The Magnesium level in our blood drops when the neurons give signals. There are lot of electrolytes like magnesium, potassium, calcium present in our blood and brain.
Specifically, the neurons are activating and start functions due to genetic conditions as well. The nerves in the head and face are called Trigeminal Nerves which supplies signals to the head, eyes, nose, mouth. As the trigeminal nerves are activating due to the nerve cells when you have headache, we may feel aura in our eyes. Aura means your eye sight might get blurred or squinting due to flashy lights or wavy lines.
Basically Aura means we can anticipate that you might be having some problems soon. All these happen, it is called trigeminal neuralgia, when your trigeminal nerves are get affecting.
Reason for severe headache

Especially, Cortex is the important part of the brain. When there is Cortical depression, there will be lot of blood flow in the cortex.
When the nerve fibers are getting activate it will feel as if there is a lightening and thunder in the blood flow. Also when the blood flow goes to and pro like this, the blood vessels will constrict and dilate alternatingly.
Later, after a certain level the blood vessel will get constricted and it will reduce the supply of oxygenated blood to that area. So we have a severe head ache on one side. Also after the neurons activate the brain stem, neuro peptides will release hormones like Serotonin, Noradrenaline, Prostaglandins.
The brain has a coating around it called Meninges and the Neuropeptide hormones inflames the coating of the brain. Inflammation means increase in the blood flow. As the blood flow increases in the brain the inflammation increases in the meninges. During the same time, the trigeminal nerves might give pain on one side of the face including eyes, teeth and so on.
